Making a Difference !!!

Making a difference

There was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his journal writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work. One day he was walking along the shore. As he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up. As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn't dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean.

As he got closer he called out, "Good morning! What are you doing?"

The young man paused, looked up and replied, "Throwing starfish in the ocean."

"I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"

"The sun is up, and the tide is going out. And if I don't throw them in they'll die."

"But, young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach, and starfish all along it. You can't possibly make a difference!"

The young man listened politely. Then bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves and said, "It made a difference for that one."

Moral: There is something very special in each and every one of us. We have all been gifted with the ability to make a difference. We must each find our starfish. And if we throw our stars wisely and well, the world will be blessed.

The Cookies

The Cookies

A young lady was waiting for her flight in the boarding room of a big airport. As she would need to wait many hours, she decided to buy a book to spend her time. She also bought a packet of cookies. She sat down in an armchair in the VIP room of the airport, to rest and read in peace. Beside the armchair where the packet of cookies lay, a man sat down in the next seat, opened his magazine and started reading it.  When she took out the first cookie, the man took one also. She felt irritated, but said nothing.

She just thought:

‘What a nerve! If I was in the mood, I would punch him for daring!’

For each cookie she took, the man took one too. This was infuriating her, but she dint want to cause a scene.

When only one cookie remained, she thought:

‘Ah... What this abusive man will do now?’

Then the man, taking the last cookie divided it into half, giving her one half. That was too much she thought. She was much angry now! In a huff, she took her book, her things and stormed to the boarding place.  When she sat down in the seat inside the plane, she looked into her purse to take her eyeglasses, and, to her surprise, her packet of cookies was there, untouched, unopened!

She felt so ashamed!! She realized that she was wrong. She had forgotten that her cookies were kept in her purse. The man had divided his cookies with her without feeling angered or bitter while she had been very angry thinking that she was dividing her cookies with him. And now there is no chance to explain her, or to apologize.

Moral: There are 4 things that you cannot recover: The stone after the throw, the word after it’s said, the occasion after the loss, and the time after it’s gone.
